“but the other was whole and i used to
pretend that my reflection in it was another little girl who
lived in it. i called her katie maurice, and we were very
intimate. i used to talk to her by the hour, especially on
sunday, and tell her everything.”

i’m a junior at oklahoma christian university

majoring in english writing

minoring in spanish, international studies, and accounting

i started out in education and hated my classes, so i went with my other option – being a writing major so i can go into publishing. i was already halfway there with spanish and international studies minors, so i just added those on, and accounting will give me a lot of general business knowledge, so i put that in there, too.

my favorite music artist is ben folds

my favorite book is fyodor dostoevsky’s crime and punishment

my favorite color is green

my favorite movie is “little miss sunshine”

i like cashews, running, japan, LOST, journaling, singing in my car, headbands, my macbook, and dresses, among many things.

i aspire to be a writer and i’ve recently started writing again. it probably won’t ever be anything important, but i’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out. i never believed that characters truly took control of the story, but now i see how true that is. i think i know exactly where they’re going, but they’re always surprising me.

“i know i’m not creative enough and i can’t think of anything that either hasn’t been done or could be written into an entire book.”

I just wanted to point out that the age old saying “there is nothing new under the sun” is very true. Even with writing. Every story has been told, you just have to find a way to tell it differently.

I was originally going to be a lawyer and was almost enrolled in law school before I changed my mind and decided to become a writer (it didn’t happen quite as cleanly as that – it involved a bit of a 27 year old midlife crisis, but that’s too long for a post). :-)

It is always better to follow your dreams – so corny, but true. Watch “Dead Poets Society” – if you haven’t already – great stuff in that movie, great stuff.

PS I love Anne of Green Gables – I’ve read the books and watched the movie more times than I can count… and I did finally find my Gilbert.
